Sonja L. Smith

 

Sonja L. Smith holds a Master’s in Music Education is from Florida State University. Smith has held the position of Director of Bands at Hopewell High School since 2001. Smith is the music director/conductor of the 35-piece orchestra at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church of Charlotte, NC, where she founded the instrumental music program. Owner and Director of FAME (Friends Academy of Music Education) and Sonja’s Songs, she uses her gifts teaching and also consults and contracts musicians in many professional venues.

 

Through musical endeavors in the areas of conducting, adjudication, consulting and flute performance, she has performed at the White House and traveled to Florida, Mexico and Costa Rico.  Ms. Smith is in demand as a clinician throughout North Carolina and South Carolina where she uses her educational gifts to empower young musicians. 

 

Past President Emeritus of the Charlotte Chapter of Kappa Delta Epsilon Educational Fraternity, her other professional memberships include Music Educators National Conference, South Central District Bandmasters Association, North Carolina Music Educators Association, and Tau Beta Sigma Music Sorority.
